I’m a 30-year-old UK filmmaker. I studied practical filmmaking at university, walked away with a 1st class honours, and really thought I’d  done something worthwhile for a moment.

 

But real life didn't work that way: The last five years have transformed the creative industry into a world almost unrecognisable to the one I imagined I was walking into, half-lost but all in. Now, I work with Alexios, the best business owner I've ever worked with, at a media company called Gumbudii, humanising brands with short-form video. Our paths crossing was a lucky break that many others simply cannot wait around for.

 Ever since I graduated I have seen the disadvantages laid out before me. Many of my friends are now working in careers so far from their creative aspirations, grateful simply to have a job that pays the bills.. but this experience showed me a gap: so many indie creators like us have the fire but not the roadmap. That’s why Separate Creative exists.

This is for every indie maker out there... passionate, driven, and having to figure it out, with or without a degree, with no clear guide to navigating an industry that has forgotten how to function. I’m still experimenting, still learning. Uni gave me a start, but the real stuff comes from doing. This community will give practical video tutorials and guides to fill skills gaps, useful tools we can actually use and share, and build a network of creators.. but that's barely the beginning.

 

Our real mission? Separate Creative is about reconnecting the dots between independent creative work, and the financial means to make that work sustainable.
